List of the best Korean dramas this 2018

Mr. Sunshine

Mr. Sunshine is a historical drama set during the Joseon era when foreign countries invaded South Korea. The main character is  Lee Byung-Hun and Kim Tae-Ri. The cinematography is perfect. It is clearly a high-budget drama. The plot is also outstanding. A young slave boy escaped Joseon and grew in the United States. He went back to Joseon as a US military captain with the goal of getting revenge for his parent’s death but he found himself falling in love with a noblewoman played by Kim Tae-Ri.

Life On Mars

Do you love time travel? Then this drama is perfect for you. It is based on a UK TV series of the same name.

A detective was shot in the head by a serial killer. He fell into a coma but suddenly woke up in 1988. There is a twist though. He does not know if he was dreaming or if it is the reality. The 1988 scenes are so good that it feels like you are really going back in time.

Mother

A one of a kind drama. This is not your typical comedy-drama. This brought me endless tears and smile at the same time. This is a story of a school teacher who kidnapped her student and pretended to be her mother to save her from child abuse. The actors are incredible, especially the child. I haven’t seen this kind of Korean drama yet so it is refreshing. This is perfect if you are looking for a serious Korean drama.

Eulachacha Waikiki

A comedy-drama. This drama is really hilarious. It is rare to find a comedy that does not get boring after a few episodes. Eulachacha Waikiki is about three friends running a guest house called Waikiki. Due to their unfortunate circumstances, they are always running out of money and can barely afford to continue running the guest house. All the actors are good but Lee Joon-Ki has really aced it here. I always wait for his antics when I watch the drama. It also became funnier when a baby showed up in the guest house and they had to take care of it even though they have no knowledge how to do it.

Misty

Misty is about a famous anchorwoman who became a primary suspect in a murder. This drama has a good plot and conflict. It is more about marriage and betrayal and the main lead’s desperation to cling on to her career. If you want to watch a Korean drama with a strong female lead, this is your pick. It is really interesting as the main actors are veterans. The mail lead is perfect for the role as she looks prim and proper.

Return

A famous lawyer represents an elite’s son in a trial for murder. The trial is complicated though as it is tangled with his three other friends. As the trial continues, their friendship gets ruined and they betrayed each other. The beginning of this drama is really interesting. The lawyer, Choi Ja-Hye is strong and smart who serves as a support for Geum Na-Ra, the wife of Kang In-Ho who was the main suspect. The drama made a complete turn when they replaced the main lead due to “differences in opinion.” The lawyer became a vengeful mother from a righteous lawyer. Despite that, it is still a good drama.

Judge Vs Judge

This is a legal drama. The woman main lead abandoned her brother because he was sentenced to prison for rape and murder. Later on, they found out that he was innocent and died just before his retrial. Judge Lee Jung-Joo became a petitioner to prove her brother’s innocence with the help of another Judge, Judge Sa Ui-Hyun. I like this drama due to its different perspective. In this drama, we see the side of judges instead of lawyers.

Doubtful Victory

A boy was framed and sent to prison for murder together with his friend. A day before his friend’s release, he discovered that an inmate was planning to kill his friend’s sister. He escaped prison to save her. He was able to save her but discovered a dead detective’s body in the car that he used to escape. In order to survive, he pretended to be the detective and ended up working with the police. This is a fast-paced action-drama. If you are into action, this is good for you. The sudden twists in the story also made me wait for the next episode every week.

Cross

Kang In-Kyu who has an exceptional skill as a doctor volunteered in prison. The culprit was imprisoned and he wanted to get revenge for his father’s brutal murder. If you like medical dramas, this is a good fit for you. There are a lot of surgical scenes here that looks real. I am not in any way knowledgeable with medical procedures. It just looks real to me who hasn’t been in an operating room.
